LOU PRIDE - 1980 - VERY SPECIAL

George Lou Pride, 24 May 1950, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Pride first sang in church, where the pastor, Reverend E.J. Cole, was the father of Nat "King" Cole. He developed a rich vocal sound well suited to gospel and soul and which would provide added texture when he also sang the blues. He sang with a vocal group, the Karls, and in a duo, JLC, with a woman he later married. While living in El Paso, Texas, Pride made some singles for Seumi Records, then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he made more records, including his first album, and slowly built a localized following singing in clubs. After returning to Chicago, he found a new audience for his vocal style that brought together many of the elemental sounds of contemporary black music and soon developed into one of the more interesting latter-day soul singers.
