Roy Ayers & Wayne Henderson - 1980

The second album by the two jazz artists together treads the same furrow as the first. Dominated by Roy Ayers' style, the eight tracks feature an array of artists including Miki Howard and Augie Johnson of Side Effect, Dawn Silva from the Brides of Funkenstein, and Mike & Brenda Sutton. Only two numbers qualify as ballads. Uptempo material rules this roost, highlighted by "You Make Me Feel Like Rockin'," the funky "Thank You, Thank You," "It Ain't Your Sign, It's Your Mind," and "Million Dollar Baby." Wayne Henderson's trombone gets a good workout on "Can You Dance." It's a competent album, but 180-degrees from their jazz roots, and not as engaging as its predecessor.
